Materials we trust

Trade materials, properly specified.

Thistle MultiFinish on the walls, the right board behind it, and render systems chosen for the wall they’re going on — not whatever was cheapest at the merchant. The spec is always what suits your house, not what suits the van stock.

Got a spec or a system in mind? Ask us — if it’s the right product for the substrate, we’ll happily work with it.

Heritage work

Period & listed properties.

The Victorian terraces of Surbiton and Thames Ditton and the listed cottages out toward Guildford, Farnham and Godalming were built to breathe — and modern gypsum or cement traps moisture in walls that were never meant to hold it. We work in lime where the building demands it: haired scratch coats on lath, three-coat work, and cornice restoration that respects what’s already there.

  • Breathable lime plaster — putty and NHL — on lath, soft brick and cob
  • Period cornice repaired, matched from a mould, or run in situ
  • Like-for-like repairs that keep conservation officers happy
  • Honest advice on gypsum vs lime before anything is hacked off

Exterior rendering

Rendering that protects as well as looks.

A render system is your house’s overcoat — it has to shed Surrey weather for decades, not just photograph well on day one. We render whole houses and extensions in monocouche, silicone thin-coat and traditional sand & cement, matched to the wall behind it: blown brick, tired pebbledash, new blockwork or an extension that needs to blend with the original. Every job starts with the substrate, not the colour chart.

  • Monocouche through-colour render — no repainting every few years
  • Silicone thin-coat systems — breathable, flexible and crack-resistant
  • Traditional sand & cement where the wall calls for it
  • Whole houses, extensions and patch-and-match crack repairs
  • Scaffold, beads, membranes and prep all handled in one quote

Trade & portfolio

Builders, landlords & developers.

Half our diary is trade: builders who need a reliable plastering gang that turns up when the programme says, landlords refreshing flats between tenancies, and developers taping and jointing whole plots around Woking. One point of contact, realistic dates, and a finish the decorator won’t ring you about.

  • Trade day rates and measured m² pricing for repeat work
  • Tape & joint at scale — consistent finish across whole plots
  • Phased site work sequenced around your other trades
  • Written scopes, photos and tidy paperwork for every valuation

Our story

Family run. Straight answers. Since 2010.

Surrey Plasterers is an independent, family-run firm of plasterers and renderers in West Molesey. The principle has never changed: explain the job in plain English, quote before working, specify what the wall actually needs, and earn the next job rather than padding this one. Most of our customers were sent by other customers — that’s the metric we care about.

What Surrey says about us.

“Two bedrooms and the landing skimmed in a day and a half. Dust sheets everywhere, doors taped up, and they told me exactly when it would be dry enough for the mist coat. Walls look like glass.”
— Sarah
“Whole front of the house rendered in monocouche. The quote was itemised down to the scaffold, nothing moved on the invoice, and they came back a week later to check the cure before signing it off.”
— James
“Our Victorian ceiling came down after a leak. They made it safe the same day, gave the insurer a written scope with photos, and the rebuilt ceiling matches the original cornice perfectly.”
— Priya

FAQs

The questions we get most.

Do you charge for quotes?+
No — quotes are free and written. For most jobs a few photos on WhatsApp are enough for a firm price; for bigger work (full re-plasters, external rendering, lime restoration) we visit, measure and put an itemised fixed price in writing. The quote stays valid for 30 days and does not quietly grow on the invoice.
How long before I can paint fresh plaster?+
A standard skim is usually ready in two to five days depending on the season and ventilation — it turns from dark to pale pink as it dries. First coat must be a mist coat: emulsion watered down by around half so it bonds instead of peeling. Never force-dry a fresh skim with heaters; that is how cracks happen. Full two-coat re-plasters and renders take longer, and we tell you the realistic date before we leave.
How do you keep the dust under control?+
Plastering is wet work but the preparation is not — hacking off, sanding and Artex prep all make dust. We sheet floors and furniture, tape doorways, bag waste as we go, and sweep down at the end of every day, not just the last one. You should be able to use the rest of the house normally while we work.
Do you take on small jobs?+
Yes. A single patch over a chased-in cable, one water-stained ceiling, a hallway skim — small jobs are how most customers find us, and we batch them efficiently around the bigger bookings so the price stays sensible. Send a photo on WhatsApp and we will quote it the same day.
Can you handle insurance work?+
Yes — ceiling collapses, escape-of-water damage and fire reinstatement are a regular part of the diary. We make the damage safe, photograph everything, produce a written itemised scope of work your loss adjuster can approve, and deal with the insurer directly if you prefer. Call 07877 309582 and we will walk you through the claim side too.
What areas do you cover?+
We are based in West Molesey (KT8) and cover the whole of Surrey and the KT/TW borders: East Molesey, Hampton Court, Thames Ditton, Esher, Claygate, Walton, Hersham, Weybridge, Cobham, Kingston, Surbiton, Epsom and out to Woking, Guildford, Dorking and Farnham for planned work. See the areas page for the full list.
